Mark your calendars for August 10 and 11 for the 16th annual Homegrown Weekend! Hootie & the Blowfish will be returning to Daniel Island at the Volvo Car Stadium to take the stage for two days of music and fundraising to celebrate their South Carolina roots. This year, the show will open with direct support from the Charleston band, Blue Dogs.
Mt. Pleasant resident Darius Rucker and the rest of the crew reunite periodically for charity events and special shows, but the Homegrown shows are the band’s only recurring concerts.
Hootie and the Blowfish’s Cracked Rear View remains one of the top-selling albums of all time, with only two albums selling more copies since its release in 1994: Alanis Morisette’s Jagged Little Pill and Shania Twain’s Come on Over.
Now approaching its 8th year in existence, Hootie’s Homegrown Roundup is a back to school program benefiting the children of Charleston County School District. Each August, to prepare for the upcoming school year, thousands of underprivileged students receive dental exams, haircuts, a backpack full of school supplies and a day full of fun.
In addition to the Roundup, Hootie & the Blowfish also host a two-day Homegrown celebration surrounding the event. On the Family Circle Cup stage, Darius, Mark, Soni and Dean gather together with outstanding supporting acts to jam and have fun with fans.
