There’s no lovelier time in Charleston than spring and no better way to experience the city’s charm than the annual Festival of Houses & Gardens. Step inside the private houses and gardens of some of the city’s most stunning properties, learn about Charleston’s distinctive architecture and history, and celebrate Charleston’s unique culture at luncheons, musical concerts and other Lowcountry lifestyle events. Tours and events vary by day.
Exciting special events are planned throughout the Festival. Running through April 21, at the Food for Thought events guests enjoy an educational talk, light lunch, and a brief guided walk or experience that relates to the day’s topic. Topics range from “Nothing of Artistic Merit:” Charleston Silver and Its Legacy, to “Adorned for the Dead:” Mourning Jewelry in Early Charleston, and many more fascinating talks by local historians and experts.
Special musical concerts are one of the most popular special events. On April 16, “Spiritually Yours Celebration” will be performed at the Unitarian Church; and on April 12, The Plantation Singers Celebration will be held at the Circular Congregational Church.
