The 2018 Cooper River Bridge Run will be held on Saturday, April 7 at 8 am. This is the 41st year for the 10K run/walk. A local tradition that stretches back to 1978, this 10K race draws close to 40,000 participants every year. The race promotes continuous physical activity and a healthy lifestyle through education and opportunity.

Each year, the design contest to decide the poster and tee shirt image receives thousands of entries. This year’s winter, William Waitzman, is a printmaker, painter and illustrator. His art for the Bridge Run poster is a silkscreen print inspired by the view of the bridge from Shem Creek in Mount Pleasant and the pelicans that follow the shrimp boats as they return to the dock. Bill made the print by drawing 17 separate layers to make up his image (one drawing for each color), then transferred the drawings to screens, and printed the colors one at a time by pulling a squeegee across the screen, forcing ink onto the paper.

Get fit and have fun at this year’s Cooper River Bridge Run. The Finish Festival at Marion Square promises food, entertainment and fun for everyone.
